Jason Brown Obituary, Death – Retired Army Master Sergeant Remembered for Service, Family and Faith

Jason Wesley Brown, Master Sergeant, United States Army, retired, of Headland, Alabama, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 12, 2026, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was 44 years old.

Jason’s death has left his family, friends, fellow soldiers, church family, former coworkers, and members of his community mourning the loss of a man remembered for his dedication to his country, strong work ethic, faith, humor, and deep love for his family.

Remembering Jason Wesley Brown

Jason was born in Jasper, Alabama, at Baptist Health Walker Hospital and grew up in Double Springs. He graduated from Winston County High School in 1999.

He went on to dedicate 20 years of honorable service to the United States Army, ultimately attaining the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8).

During his military career, Jason completed three combat deployment tours overseas and participated in numerous field training exercises. He held a security clearance and received numerous awards recognizing his achievements and excellence.

MSG Brown served with the 313th Military Intelligence Battalion and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Jason was tremendously proud of his military service and deeply loved his country. His commitment to serving others became one of the defining parts of his life.

Jason Brown’s Career as a Homebuilder

Following his military retirement, Jason earned an Associate Degree in Business Management and found a new calling as a homebuilder with Rainier Homes.

Together with his wife, Shelley, he took tremendous pride in building quality homes. He approached his work with the same precision, dedication, and strong work ethic that characterized his military career.

Jason built more than houses. He developed lasting relationships and friendships with the homeowners he served. His meticulous attention to detail and commitment to doing things properly were evident in every project he undertook.

A Man Who Loved to Fix Things

Outside of work, Jason found happiness in many simple pleasures.

He loved fishing, particularly bass fishing, and treasured spending time at the lake in his beloved bass boat. Those days on the water created countless memories for Jason and the people who shared them with him.

He was also a devoted Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

Jason was known as a true “Mr. Fix-It.” Whether he was working on a vehicle, his bass boat, or a lawn mower, he enjoyed figuring out how things worked and finding ways to make them better.

He even took great pride in washing vehicles and making sure they looked their best. For Jason, no vehicle wash was complete without tire shine.

His meticulous nature extended to virtually everything he did. His tool cabinet, where everything had its designated place, reflected the attention to detail that was such a recognizable part of his personality.

Jason Brown’s Faith

Faith became an increasingly important part of Jason’s life.

He was saved in November 2025 and became a devoted member of Blackwood Church. His family remembered his love for Jesus and his desire to share the gospel whenever he had the opportunity.

His faith, kindness, and quiet strength influenced the way he cared for the people around him.

Family Was at the Center of Jason’s Life

Above everything else, Jason deeply loved his family.

He shared a special bond with his brother and nephews and was devoted to his mother. His relationship with his wife, Shelley Brown, was especially meaningful.

The couple had been married for almost 19 years, sharing a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Jason also had a special companion in their beloved dog, Smore, who had been by his side for 15 years. He loved Smore dearly, and their bond reflected his gentle nature and capacity for affection.

Jason’s surviving family includes his wife, Shelley Brown; his mother, Donna Nelson Lay and Richard Lay; his father, Danny Brown and Annette Brown; father-in-law John Wagner; stepson Chris Escobar; brother Cody McCauley; nephews Coltyn McCauley and Thomas Nelson; brother-in-law Todd Wagner; and his beloved dog, Smore, along with numerous aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, and friends.

Jason Brown Funeral and Military Honors

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel, with Reverend Jonathan Tomlin officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory.

A Lasting Legacy

Jason will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his meticulous approach to everything he did, his strong work ethic, infectious humor, love of the outdoors, devotion to Alabama football, and deep faith.

His life was defined by service and devotion, both during his military career and in the years that followed.

To his family, he was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. To fellow soldiers, he was a respected serviceman. To homeowners and coworkers, he was a dedicated professional who took pride in doing things right. To his church family, he was a man committed to his faith.

Jason Wesley Brown leaves behind a legacy of military service, hard work, faith, friendship, and love that will continue through everyone whose life he touched.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow soldiers, church family, former coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
